Praying for God’s Protection
Preface: I begin this teaching with a reminder.
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty, there’s nothing my God cannot do.
As you read my books and surf through my website, you will notice I do not focus on our enemy. Just who is our enemy as Christians? It’s not our next-door neighbour, boss, or current governmental leader. No, our enemy is an ancient one whose first dealings with humanity in the Garden of Eden spoke of his evil intentions and revealed his tricks of the trade. Satan does his best to pull us away from our true identity and purpose through deception, temptation, distraction and slander of God’s character.
God created us to be in a loving relationship with Him, and Satan hates God and therefore hates His creation. Fear is his number one tactic and distraction his second. If he can deceive us into thinking he has more power over our thought life, bodies, hearts, and circumstances than God does, he has one foot in the door. If we allow ourselves to be distracted by or fixated on his tactics, he has another foot in the door.
I refuse to follow or promote any teaching that gives the impression that the fight against good and evil is on an even playing field or an eternal game of tug-a-war. God is God, all-powerful, the Creator of the universe. Satan is a mere created being. He was once an angel in the heavenly realms but chose to rebel against God.
It took no more effort by God to cast this fallen angel out of his presence than it takes us to squish a bug under a shoe. He is a big God and our enemy is puny in comparison. Christ lives within us, as believers. He that dwells within us is more than capable to come against all that would attempt to come against us.
The following prayers are NOT meant to be shortcuts that replace a close and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. HE is our source of protection. Our position must always be under His wing (Psalm 91). We should keep short accounts of sin, we need to be honest with God when we are feeling weak or are struggling. When we keep a clean slate before God and man, the enemy has no legal foothold in our lives.
If you have not yet accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour of your life, might I invite you to do so now? Read more at “What is salvation and why do I need to be saved?”
I am a Christian, and my life is in His hands. I know where my strength lies. My faith is built on nothing less than the all-powerful blood of Jesus and His righteousness.

How to Pray Protection Over Your Home
When addressing the enemy (Satan), speak aloud. You don’t need to use a loud voice; even a whisper is sufficient. Contrary to what horror movies portray, our enemy is not all-knowing. Pray these prayers with intentional faith, not as if they were mere chants. Remember, you are reaching out to Someone with whom you have a relationship, asking for their aid. You are not just reciting a memorized list.
You only need to do these 3 steps once.
I recommend you do this shortly after moving into your new home, apartment, or long-term living situation. An exception to repeating this might be on occasion that you had to, as a last resort, evict a roommate, houseguest or household member involved in activities deliberately in opposition to God.
- Start by worshiping and giving thanks to God, our protector and champion. Play some worship music and spend a few moments expressing gratitude for your new home. Acknowledge God’s goodness and dedicate your home to Him. Declare your intention to make this place a welcoming environment where God is the head of the household, and where people can feel His blessing and peace as soon as they enter. This is not about spiritual warfare or making declarations; it’s simply about surrendering your home to a loving, gracious, and generous God.
- Walk through your house with any type of oil; it doesn’t have to be specific. Olive oil, vegetable oil, baby oil, or even lip balm can work well. Bless the oil with a short prayer. “I bless this oil in Jesus name.” Place a small dot of oil at the top and on each side of every entry point into your home, which includes interior windows, doors, and entryways throughout the house, such as the basement and attic. The oil doesn’t need to be applied in a noticeable spot, and it’s important not to overdo it. Be careful not to damage or stain your walls or trim. If you have a garage, don’t forget to anoint the interior as well. As you move through each room, say a simple prayer: “I pray for the protection of the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ over this room/window/entryway.”
- Walk through your house and ask the Lord to reveal any objects or items that may need prayer. This could include questionable statues, posters, books, movies, DVDs, souvenirs from temples, knickknacks, jewelry, and more. Inquire of the Lord whether you should anoint these items while praying the prayer mentioned earlier, or if it would be best to remove them. Don’t spend excessive time contemplating each object; instead, ask the Lord to speak to you clearly and quickly. Trust that He will guide you regarding what, if anything, needs to be removed.A word of caution: you do not have the right to remove or destroy another person’s property. If something belonging to someone else in your shared space gives you spiritual discomfort, calmly discuss your feelings with them without making accusations. Politely ask if you can pray a blessing over the item that disturbs you. If they are open to the idea, remove it. If they are not receptive to your suggestion, trust that God’s hand of protection will cover you, regardless of what they choose to keep. Remain in intercession, for their sake, that they will be willing to part with it but don’t nag them.
Praying for Protection by Using God’s Word
Engage in a Bible study focused on God’s promises of protection, and transform those promises into personal prayers. For example, when praying Psalm 91 for your son, Robert, you can replace phrases like “he who dwells” with “Robert who dwells,” making the prayer more personal and meaningful. It’s essential to approach this practice thoughtfully; Jesus spoke against those who mindlessly repeated prayers without true intention. So, as you pray, be intentional, focused, and centred in peace.
A Word of Caution Concerning Angelic Protection
Remember that Satan is a fallen angel, and most biblical scholars agree that approximately one-third of the angels chose to rebel alongside him. Always ask God to send you His angelic protection in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Be discerning and carefully research anyone offering courses on “angels,” “angelic spirit guides,” or “angel protectors.” Most New Age practitioners do not understand the difference between fallen angels and God’s heavenly guardians. If you are researching online, always look for the website’s statement of faith. If you can’t find it, check their “About Us” page.
If they do not have a statement of faith, it is likely not a Christian organization. If they do not clearly state that there is no other way to Heaven and that access to God comes only through unconditional and total surrender to Jesus Christ, steer clear of their teachings. Avoid any websites that claim all paths lead to God, as well as any books or social media accounts that suggest Jesus is merely one of many spiritual “teachers.”
Although these sources may use language that appears “Christian” at first glance, many New Age books, teachings, and websites deny the deity of Jesus and are displeased that Christians consider Him the ONLY way, the ONLY truth, and the ONLY light.
Finally, avoid any website or book that focuses on created beings (angels) over the Creator, Yahweh, the only true and living God.
A common unbiblical myth that is extremely popular asserts that upon our death, we become angels. However, reincarnation is not scriptural and goes against the biblical narrative of creation. Angels and humans are two distinct orders of creation, each order created for specific reasons and purposes. While there are guardian angels, they are not our loved ones reincarnated into angelic beings.
This false teaching borders on ancestral worship and spiritualism, both of which are cautioned against in scripture. We should never initiate conversations with the dead. If our loved ones knew Jesus before they died, they are indeed part of the great cloud of witnesses, and they may know what we are doing. However, there is no scripture indicating that they actively engage with us.
Personally, I do not make it a practice to directly command angels to do anything. Instead, I ask God to send His angels on assignment for me.
Daily Prayers of Protection
Pray the following in order. You will understand the logic as you go along the steps.
1. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I command a hedge of protection to be around my home and property today, and I ask that warrior angel sent by the one true God be placed to stand guard at any *holes that might be in that hedge.
*Holes in the hedge can be caused by yet to be confessed sin, trauma, or wounding in the lives of the people who dwell in the home.
2. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I command any free, unbound, or wandering spirits to get out beyond that hedge of protection.
3. In the name of Jesus Christ, I ask warrior angels to be placed at the doorways and *access points to my home and property today that would keep out any free, unbound or wandering spirits that would try to enter my home and property today. Jesus, send warrior angels that would bind and separate from their functions any demons attached to any persons entering my home and property today.
*An access point could be cable TV, the internet, telephone or other communication devices in the home, power hookup, water supply or heat source. Note: Consider unsubscribing from subscriptions or streaming services if you personally feel a draw toward dark or ungodly programming and people within your home are prone to nightmares or obsessive thoughts of spiritual warfare.
4. Father God, I ask for a spiritual umbrella of protection over me and a spiritual hedge of protection around me. I place the full armour of God on me, and I ask that the light of the Lord Jesus shine through me this day.
I highly recommend using Ephesians 6:13-17 as a daily prayer guide. Instead of reciting the passage as a mantra, take your time to pray through it thoughtfully. Consider how you can embody each of the godly character traits mentioned: righteousness, peace, faith, truth, and hope. Stand firm in your beliefs, embrace honesty, and trust in the truth. Strive to be righteous and maintain peace with both God and others. Stay steadfast in your faith and protect your mind by minimizing influences that may induce anxiety or fear. Learn to incorporate the Word of God into your prayer life.
Eph 6: 13-17 – “Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
If you struggle with nightmares, restless nights, and unease at bedtime, consider praying the following prayer before bedtime. You might also play instrumental worship music as you drift off to sleep.
Father God, I ask you to send warrior angels to guard me as I sleep. I declare that YOU are the Lord of my nights. I give you my thoughts, and I give you my anxious concerns. I take your rest in exchange.
Praying for Your Family
Daily pray:
1. Father God, please place a barrier of protection around each of my children. Lord Jesus, I ask that you would, at any time necessary, deal with any spirit beings which might attempt to harass my children/spouse.
2. Psalm 91 is a beautiful psalm to pray over your children nightly as they go to sleep.

Lorica of Patrick
I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through a belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
Of the Creator of creation.
I arise today
Through the strength of Christ’s birth and His baptism,
Through the strength of His crucifixion and His burial,
Through the strength of His resurrection and His ascension,
Through the strength of His descent for the judgment of doom.
I arise today
Through the strength of the love of cherubim,
In obedience of angels,
In service of archangels,
In the hope of resurrection to meet with reward,
In the prayers of patriarchs,
In preachings of the apostles,
In faiths of confessors,
In innocence of virgins,
In deeds of righteous men.
I arise today
Through the strength of Heaven;
Light of the sun,
Splendour of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of the wind,
Depth of the sea,
Stability of the earth,
Firmness of the rock.
I arise today
Through God’s strength to pilot me;
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me,
God’s way to lie before me,
God’s shield to protect me,
God’s hosts to save me
From snares of the devil,
From temptations of vices,
From every one who desires me ill,
Afar and anear,
Alone or in a multitude.
I summon today all these powers between me and evil,
Against every cruel, merciless power that opposes my body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of pagandom,
Against false laws of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of smiths and wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts man’s body and soul.
Christ shield me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
So that reward may come to me in abundance.
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me,
Christ in the eye that sees me,
Christ in the ear that hears me.
I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through a belief in the Threeness,
Through a confession of the Oneness
Of the Creator of creation
Patrick wrote this inspirational confession of faith and prayer (ca. 377)
Patrick was originally brought to Ireland as a slave. Upon receiving his freedom, Patrick left the country. The Lord called him back several years later, with the mandate to bring the gospel to Ireland. Patrick and a small band of believers transformed Ireland from a Pagan nation into a Christian nation.
