Where is Your Attention Centred?

When we have one thing focused on our lens so to speak. Everything else on the sidelines automatically falls into line. If we seek first the kingdom of God above all else and live righteously then we will reap the rewards of living a righteous life.

Distraction and short attention spans are robbing us of the joy of reaching focused goals. What rewards do we reap when we focus on the One Thing?

Hi there and welcome back to Daily Bible Promises with a Twist. And today we’re going to be reading from the New International Version. Proverbs 21:21. “Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity, and honour.”

Let’s read that verse in another translation just so we can get a broader picture and I’ll be using the New Living Translation. And this is what it says. “Whoever pursues righteousness and unfailing love will find life, righteousness, and honour.” You notice the difference between prosperity and righteousness.

Prosperity does not just mean financial success. It means living a prosperous life. Body, soul, and spirit. When I read the verse in the New International Version immediately Matthew 6:31-33 popped in my head. So we’re going to read that from the New Living Translation.

“So don’t worry about these things, saying what we eat? What we drink? What we wear? These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers. But your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else and live righteously and he will give you everything you need.” It’s very difficult to pursue two things when those two things are going in the opposite direction. You need to choose one or the other.

When we have one thing focused on our lens so to speak. Everything else on the sidelines automatically falls into line. If we seek first the kingdom of God above all else and live righteously then we will reap the rewards of living a righteous life. And the Bible is full of references of all of the benefits of living a righteous life. There is nothing wrong with setting financial goals and having other goals in our lives but all of those goals need to be set with keeping the ultimate goal and the ultimate pursuit in mind.

If those things we are seeking after distract us from the ultimate goal of living a righteous life and pursuing God’s unfailing love, then perhaps those things might need to be set aside until we can see them through the lens that’s main focus is on the Kingdom of God.
