Be Willing to Die Small Deaths Daily

Character is not developed at the moment of a great crisis. A crisis only exposes what is already there. Practise dying to self on a daily basis, make small but courageous steps each day to speak the truth, in love and respect of course. Stand firm on the truth today and you’ll stand firm on that truth when every voice in your head screams to compromise.

[00:00:00] Hi and welcome back to Daily Bible Promises with a Twist. And if you’re wondering what the twist is, follow the arrow, it will lead you to a playlist. Click on the first entry in that playlist, and it’ll explain everything.

[00:00:14] Today we are reading a sobering verse and it’s from Revelation 2:10 and this Bible promise card only includes the second half of the verse. In the NIV version. “Be faithful even to the point of death. And I will give you life as your victor’s crown.”

[00:00:35] And Revelation 2:10 in the New American Standard Bible which includes the whole verse. It says this. “Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold the devil is about to cast some of you into prison that you might be tested and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful unto death and I will give you the crown of life.”

[00:01:01] I do know the stories of those I have met who have gone through extreme persecution and came out the other side with their faith still strong. And the ones who came through that time of persecution victoriously were the ones who had already established a strong, vibrant relationship with Jesus. They were people who already knew the Bible well. They were people who knew how to feed their spirit and how to discipline their thought life and to submit that thought life under the lordship of Jesus Christ.

[00:01:40] They also learned to cope with the little annoyances in life that could build up to become huge things, but they learned how to keep them small.

[00:01:53] Now, none of the people I’ve talked to who went through a persecution gave me this example, but it comes to my mind. If you are in a traffic jam and you are somebody who is extremely impatient, you can decide to take this test or being stuck in a traffic jam to develop patience or you can let that opportunity go to the wayside while you become impatient. Perhaps you become angry because you feel entitled to be going along on your journey.

[00:02:28] There are little deaths we face each day where we have a choice to die to self or to feed our selfish nature. Every opportunity we take to doe self, those little deaths, are training grounds. So if we were ever to face a situation like this in the Book of Revelation Chapter 2 verse 10 we’ll have the inner strength to walk through whatever we are about to face. So, let’s read it again. “Be faithful to death and I will give you the crown of life.”

[00:03:14] Will you join me in prayer right now? Father God, will you strengthen those tonight who are facing death because of their faith in Jesus Christ? Will you surround them with angels? Will you sing songs to their heart and will you give them reassurance that they are gaining a victor’s crown? In Jesus name. Amen.
