What’s Lurking Behind Your Wall?

God knows what's behind the walls of our hearts that no man sees. He can address the issues before they cause damage if we allow Him.

I live in a high rise building with 225 suites. Today, the water is shut off in the whole building while the plumbers fix a problem. The problem was lurking in a wall in my bathroom for what appears to be months, if not years.

If you looked closely at the pipe, you’d see that water caused calcification going down the pipe all the way down to the suite below me. Water was also ever-so-slowly leaking into the apartment adjoining mine. It was barely noticeable. But upon further inspection, the suite next to me experienced major water damage to its drywall and insulation.

Now I wasn’t aware of this leak, as the pipe carried the water both below me and into the apartment next door. There were no visible signs at all in my apartment.

So,  month after month, probably year after year, this tiny little leak caused no damage to me, but it damaged those around me.

My neighbours didn’t know the source of the problem, they just knew there was some water damage to their wall and to their ceiling.

It got me thinking, are there blind spots or hidden areas in my life that I am unaware of that are damaging others around me? How would I ever know? I am thankful that God promises us to show us our hearts, He knows those hidden areas of our heart, that no man can see. He can address the issues and clean up the damage if we allow Him.

Jeremiah 17:9 – “The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is desperately sick: who can know it?”

Hebrews 4:12 – “For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Daniel 2:22 – “He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.
