Rest When You Have the Opportunity to Do So

A well-trained soldier knows when to rest when given the opportunity to do so. Finding a place of protection and safety doesn’t do a warrior much good if he doesn’t place his trust in those who guard that place. Learning to stay in the moment and quieting your heart, emotions, and mind takes discipline!

Hi there and welcome back to Daily Bible Promises with a Twist. And today we’ll start with Psalm 62:6 using the NIV version. “He is my rock and my salvation, He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.” Now, let’s read that in context and I’m going to be using the New Living Translation today. I’m going to be focusing on 3 key verses in Psalm 62. Those verses are going to be 1, 5, and 6.

“I waited quietly before God for my victory comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.” And moving down to verse 5, “Let all that I am wait quietly before God for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken.”

There is a reason why David consistently refers to God as his shelter, his hiding place, his refuge, his strong tower that will not be shaken. Read 1 Kings and you will get a glimpse of all that David went through. He went through betrayal, he went through a madman chasing him across Israel, he experienced his own son turning the nation of Israel against him.

David went through it all, and yet all the way through, he knew God was a strong tower and a safe place he could run to.

David was a man of action. He was an experienced warrior who had many battles under his belt. And one thing that a soldier learns is to rest when there is an opportunity to do so. God provided a safe place for David again and again. It was up to David to take advantage of being completely surrounded by God’s protection and to rest in that place, without anticipating what might be happening next and without looking back over his shoulder and reliving all the chaos that had been going on.

He learned to rest in the moment and to wait quietly; to allow God’s hiding place to be a place of rejuvenation and of intimacy with the One who had hidden him under his wings.
