Are you a new author? Are you a student? Do you want someone to check your résumé? Are you a missionary who needs help with your fundraising letters? Are you a seasoned blogger who needs a fresh pair of eyes to look over your blog before you hit the publish button? Do you self-publish books?

I am a seasoned veteran in proofreading and simple editing, having hands-on experience with everything from business letters to book manuscripts. For several years, I offered my services at no cost or low-cost to close personal friends and ministries I support. I have successfully assisted several non-profits, first-time authors, college students, and job-seekers to showcase their written message in the best light possible.

I am now offering my proofreading and simple editing services to the general public at reasonable rates. In doing so, I hope to cover the increasing costs to keep this ministry online.

As a Canadian, I easily slip between American and British spelling. I am familiar with the differences between old-school typewriting spacing and modern manuscript spacing. I can format credits and bibliography references.

Why Hire a Proofreader or Editor?

Self-editing might sound like an easy way to save a few bucks. However, if one of your core values as a writer is to produce an article of excellence, then you have your work cut out for you. Editing requires patience, a keen eye, and time.

One of the drawbacks of self-editing is that it will decrease your output. For every hour I write, I spend at least three hours tweaking what I wrote. If I had the funds to hire an editor, I definitely would! Professional editors know the value of hiring another editor to go through their own work. Speaking from years of experience, editing and proofreading another person’s work is easier than editing my own.

If you are a poet or novelist, nitpicky self-editing will definitely put a damper on your creativity. Giving your final drafts to a proofreader allows your time and energy to be poured into your creative expression.

If you are not quite sure how much editing your article might need, read the descriptions below.

Proofreading:

You are an accomplished writer. You have gone through your document with a fine-toothed comb. You know that arrogance and presumption usually lead to glaring typos in a final manuscript. We all need someone to double-check our work.

  • Spell Check
  • Spacing Corrections
  • Simple grammar corrections.
  • Tense agreement, Oxford comma usage, unmistakably missing words.

Simple Editing:

Your work needs a bit of polish. You are an experienced writer. I consider simple editing to include the above, as well as the following: restructuring a few sentences here and there, tweaking passive voice sentences, reducing complex sentences and eliminating verbosity. I reserve the right to review a short excerpt of your writing before I give you a final estimate.

Complex Editing:

You have a great concept, an important message, and an excellent imagination. Spelling, grammar, and sentence structure are not your strong suits. You are not a regular blogger or writer. Your vocabulary is limited, and you aren’t familiar with synonyms or split infinitives. You tend to ramble in both your written and spoken thought patterns. Your spoken English might be excellent, but your written English needs work. You aren’t sure what passive voice is, and you don’t know why tenses need to agree. Naturally, to edit such a project will require more time and effort on my part. I will also need to consult with you more often through the editing process. Therefore, my fees will be much higher. I reserve the right to review your writing before I give you a final estimate.

All payments must be made via PayPal (US Funds) I cannot accept cheques, direct credit card payments or any other form of payment.

I will issue you a final invoice once our project is complete. Once you have paid, please keep your PayPal receipt as proof of payment.
