Obstacles will Serve as Your Stepping Stones

Your past and present obstacles will serve as stepping stones, fashioned to become a firm foundation for your future.

“Your past and present obstacles will serve as the stepping stones to your future.”

One night, I awoke in the wee small hours from a vivid dream speaking the above words to a person who was unknown to me. Upon awakening from the dream, I saw in my mind’s eye a stone smith laying down a pathway using natural flagstone. Just behind him was a pile of large stones of various sizes. Some looked like small boulders. The stones were irregularly shaped, some thicker than others. Some had sharp, jagged edges.

I watched the artisan select a large stone, filing down the rough edges.  After careful inspection, he laid the stone on a previously prepared base. Carefully manipulating and rotating the stone, he found the perfect spot. I could see it fit against the stone already in place. The artisan firmly packed sand around the stone. That rock wasn’t going anywhere and was safe and stable to walk on. What had once been an obstacle was now a stepping stone. The path went on quite a distance, although it was not yet complete.

Isaiah 62:10-12  (ESV) – “Go through, go through the gates; prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway; clear it of stones; lift up a signal over the peoples. Behold, the Lord has proclaimed to the end of the earth: Say to the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your salvation comes; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him.’ And they shall be called The Holy People, The Redeemed of the Lord; and you shall be called Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken.”

Those obstacles we once thought were insurmountable will become a firm foundation for our future.

For those of us with difficult pasts, navigating through the boulders and potholes caused by trauma can be intimidating. We wonder how God could move us forward with all the obstacles in our way. Our feet are bloody and bruised from stumbling over uneven stones. However, those obstacles are now behind us. With His help, we can move forward. Those obstacles we once thought were insurmountable will become a firm foundation for our future. However, there will come a time when God will ask us to keep our eyes focused on the road before us and not look back. There will come a day when He will ask us to stop allowing our past to be an excuse not to move forward on His highway.

For those of us who are facing obstacles today, it is tempting to grow weary of the detours and hurdles that lay ahead.

James writes, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”(James 1:2-4) God will use every trial you face to build the path to your future. (Jer 29:11)

In the hand of the Master Craftsman, your path will be perfect and complete, lacking nothing!

Tip Jar – A small tip would be greatly appreciated if you would like to help with the funds needed to keep this ministry running.  Paypal As I am not in the US, I don’t have access to the various other PayPal-like options available in that nation. As it would cost too much for me to apply for Non-Profit status, a process that can take years in Canada, I cannot offer donation receipts.
