Jesus Made Some Audacious Claims

“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: ‘I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God’. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of thing Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either blunatic on on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse.” C.S. Lewis

Hi There. And welcome back to Daily Bible Promises with a Twist. And today I’m going to be reading, as usual, from the New International Version first. And today’s verse is John 10:9. “I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved.”

The New Living Translation is what I’m going to be reading from. However, it basically said the same thing as well. John 10 verse 9. “Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved.” As you noticed, Jesus does not say I am a gate. There’s many different ways to be saved and I am just one of them.” He doesn’t try to promote himself by making his gate more attractive than all the other gates. No. There’s only one gate and that is Him.

That’s a pretty bold statement, especially in today’s world of political correctness and the unwillingness to accept that there are certain absolutes in life. If Jesus didn’t express his point clearly enough in chapter 10 of John, He is much more blunt in John 14 and verse 6. “I am the way the truth and the life no one can come to the Father except through me.” Jesus just wasn’t talking the talk. He was walking the walk. He backed up every audacious statement that He made concerning himself by action.

Not only did He lay down His life for His sheep, but He rose triumphantly from the dead so we too could have eternal life. As a Christ follower, I must take His claims about who He is seriously.

I’m throwing out a challenge to my fellow Christians. If you truly believe the words of Jesus – that He is the way, the truth, and the life and He is the gate to salvation, I challenge you to not mince your words when you are speaking of Him to other people. You don’t need to apologize to nonbelievers on behalf of Jesus. Jesus knows what He said. He can handle their questions.

And then go one step further. Follow Jesus’ example and back up your audacious claims about Jesus through acts of mercy, acts of generosity, healing the sick, and bringing the good news into very dark places. Be bold and be the light.
