Homesick for a Place I Have Yet to Be

We were born with a beacon planted deep in our hearts that aches with homesickness for a place we have yet to see. Deep calls out to deep and He’s calling us home.

Welcome back to Daily Bible Promises with a Twist. And today, as always, We’re going to begin by reading the New International Version. Psalm 84 verse 11. “The Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.”

And we’re going to read the same verse using the New Living Translation. “For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.”

We actually don’t know the names of the specific people who wrote this Psalm. However, you’ll see throughout Psalms that there are Psalms attributed to the sons of Korah. Korah was a Levite who was given certain tasks to do. He wasn’t happy to do the task that he had been assigned. He convinced a few other people who weren’t so happy to join him as they rebelliously confronted Moses and Aaron. They were all killed instantly. However, God, in His mercy, spared the sons of Korah.

Let’s go ahead a few hundred years now the descendants of Korah developed a deep passion and a love for the presence of God and for His tabernacle. Even if their assigned position was as a doorkeeper, hovering between the inner sanctuary and the outer sanctuary, they were content to be there. They loved being close to the presence of God.

There are some days I experience such a holy homesickness where I just want to be in the presence of God in a tangible way like the sons of Korah. I don’t want to leave God’s presence. There are times that that veil or that glass that we see through dimly, as Paul puts it in first Corinthians 13, is so thin it’s almost transparent and we can get a glimpse of eternity. And how that makes us so homesick for a place we have not yet been!

However, God does not withhold good things from us just because we’re not on that other side of eternity yet. “No good thing -including His presence – does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.” If like me, you have a holy homesickness for a place that you have yet to be, take comfort in knowing that God does not withhold His presence from us even though we cannot yet see Him face to face. We can experience him. Heart to heart. This side of eternity.
