A Gift is not a Reward, It’s a Gift.

It’d be really silly to try to pay someone back for a gift they gave to you out of the goodness of their heart. Wouldn’t it? Yet, sometimes, we fall into that trap. God gives good gifts to His kids but some of us spend needless time and energy trying to pay Him back.

Hi there and welcome back to Daily Bible Promises with a Twist. If you’re wondering what the twist is, follow the arrow it will lead you to an ‘I’, click on the ‘I’. That will lead you to a YouTube playlist, and the first entry in that playlist will explain this all.

Today we’re reading from the NIV version, which is what these cards are written on. Unlike what we’ve been doing in the past, I won’t be reading from the NASB.

ROMANS 4:7-8. “Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, who sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them.”

The word transgression can be translated as disobedience, sin, or lawless deeds. But this all basically saying the same thing. All sin is forgiven and whose sin is covered and whose sin the Lord will never count against them. Let’s concentrate on the word BLESSED. shall we?

If you read the whole chapter 4, you’ll discover that Paul is addressing an issue within the church. People were trying to prove that they were righteous in the eyes of God by performing certain acts. Paul brings up Abraham, who he hadn’t even been circumcised yet. All he did is he believed God at His word, he believe that God would bless him if God if he followed God out of his homeland and where God was going to take him. And yet, God counted that belief as righteousness.

So, let’s concentrate on the word BLESSED. I want to give an illustration. I was blessed with the gift of this Bible. If I write to the person who blessed me with this gift and said “How much do I owe you?” or “Please don’t give that gift to me until I prove to you how worthy I am to receive that gift.” my friend would probably laugh at me because they know me well or if they didn’t know me well they would probably be a little bit insulted. So, if you’re trying to prove to God that you are somehow worthy of his forgiveness, that’s never going to happen.

The only way that we are made worthy of God’s forgiveness and of having our slate wiped clean is by bringing our sins to the cross of the Lord Jesus, acknowledging that we sinned, and to repent. Which means to turn in the other direction and to change our thinking.

Believe God, take Him at His word, walk out of your sinful ways. Ask the Lord to forgive you and walk into the land that He’s leading you into. That land is freedom and peace and a cleansed conscience.
