Feeling Like You are Late to the Party?

Ever feel like you are a last-minute addition to the party or that you might not even be REALLY welcome to the party even though your hosts say otherwise? The Gentile believers in Rome might have felt that way and Paul goes out of his way to reassure them they were invited guests after all.

[00:00:00] I welcome back to Daily Bible Promises with a Twist. If you’re wondering what the twist is, just follow the arrow to the ‘I’. The ‘I’ will lead you to a playlist and the very first entry in that playlist explains it all.

[00:00:12] We’re reading from NIV Bible cards that I received as a gift.

[00:00:17] And today, Romans 15:13 says in the NIV, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him.” And the NASB Bible says in Verse 13, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

[00:00:41] So, who is the ‘you’ that Paul is referring to in this particular verse? Paul is primarily addressing the Gentile believers in the church in Rome. The gentiles weren’t quite sure of their place. They perhaps felt like they were a little bit late to the party. Well, Paul goes out of his way in the verses directly before Verse 13 to reassure them that not only did Christ die for them, but He loves them, and that provision was made for them.

Even in the Old Testament prophesies that they would be coming into the kingdom. Paul ends his short little flyover of the promises of God concerning the gentile people entering into the kingdom with verse twelve. And he quotes from Isaiah. “There shall come the root of Jesse and he who arises to rule over the Gentiles, in him, shall the Gentiles hope. Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

[00:01:56] When I was putting this together this evening, I kind of felt like the Lord was leading me to go on a little bit of a different slant so I just wanted to end simply with a prayer. And this prayer is targeting those of you who feel that you don’t quite fit in. You feel that you’re late to the party. You feel that you don’t understand everything yet. You feel that sometimes when people try to explain things to you about your Christian walk it goes over your head and you kind of nod politely. But inside, you’re feeling that you’re never going to get it.

[00:02:35] I want to pray for God’s peace to come over you. I am modifying this prayer. I wrote this prayer in my book, “Seasons.” You can find it on Amazon.

[00:02:47] My prayer for you right now is I pray for peace. I pray for peace that passes all understanding. Peace that fills every corner of your home, every corner of your heart, and every corner of your life. I pray for comfort. Comfort that comes from the assurance of God’s great love for you. No matter what, no matter when, no matter why, no matter what you have done or will do, His love will always be there. I pray for the gift of practical helps; hands, feet, and voices that will come to you and guide you and help you to understand those places that you don’t yet understand. I pray for grace to see your world through Christ’s eyes.
