Don’t Despair! Your Harvest is at Hand!

When you have almost nothing, it can be tempting to cling onto that morsel. Perhaps, there’s a harvest just waiting to grow in those few grains of wheat that you clench in your hand. Perhaps it’s time to plant a new crop.

[00:00:00] Hi and welcome back to Daily Bible Promises with a Twist. If you’re wondering what the twist is, follow the letter ‘I’. That will lead you to a playlist and that playlist will explain all of this.

[00:00:11] Today we’re reading, as usual, from the NIV version, Psalm 126:5 “Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy” and that’s Psalm 126:5. But we’re going to focus on verses 5 and 6 today. So, let’s go for it. [NASB] “Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting. He who goes to and fro weeping carried his bag of seed shall indeed come again with a shout of joy bringing his sheaves with him.”

[00:00:43] When I read verse five and six, I have a picture in my mind of a farmer who has been experiencing a great drought. He has hardly any food left. He has very little food to feed his family, no matter sell in the marketplace. But he has a handful of wheat grain in his hand and he has a choice to make. He can go home and have his wife grind that little bit of wheat and make a small little cake and the family can they can eat it and that they can die. Or he can choose to take that wheat grain. He could choose to take what’s already in his hand, that he can see, and walk to the field and by faith in the fact that wheat will grow, he pushes each little grain of wheat into the dirt. I can see tears running down his dusty cheek because he’s in desperation. Is this going to work?

[00:01:47] Perhaps he’s a farmer in the time of the prophets and the prophet sees in the distance a little cloud, and he looks in the distance and he can see that small cloud and this is a week after he planted in that soil. The winds didn’t come and blow the grains away. He saw the reward of his faith. That seed, those grains that he planted would spring with new life.

[00:02:19] So let’s read verse 5 and 6 with that picture in your head. “Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting. He who goes to and fro weeping, carrying his bag of seed, shall indeed come again with a shower of joy bringing the sheaves before him.”
