A word for today, September 6, 2024
For those fervently praying for the prodigals in your life, those who once walked with the Lord but have wandered away or perhaps deliberately turned away, I feel God’s finger on this passage from The Voice Translation. God is calling us to remember the power of our prayers, for they can move mountains and bring back the lost sheep.
Isaiah 57:14b-16
“Clear the way that they travel; widen the roads and make them smooth!
Take away any difficulty so that they may go easily!”
For the highest God above,
who is and always will be, the only One who is holy has this to say:
I live in the high and holy place,
yet I am with the low, the weak, and the humble.
I renew their vitality and revive their strength.
For I will not struggle against them forever,
and I won’t always be angry.
For the human spirit would grow faint—
the breath of life I created would soon grow weak.”
Isaiah 57:14b-16
God is commissioning us to be His road crew – clearing a path for the prodigals to come home.
Do you have prodigals in your life? Are there stones or stumbling blocks that are hindering their return? Offenses done against them? Wounds caused by those who call themselves believers but poorly represent Christ’s love?
God calls those who hurt the prodigals to repent and seek reconciliation. He also releases supernatural grace toward the prodigals to forgive those who hurt them. Forgiveness is not just for the one who caused the wound; it’s also for the one who was hurt. It’s a call to action, urging us to swallow our pride, forgive before an apology is issued, and take the first step toward healing and restoration.
As we clear the path, prodigals are coming home.
