How You Will Respond to Persecution?

How will you respond to persecution and intolerance toward Christianity in your home, business, workplace and in the public eye?

Esther 4:14 -“For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

Mordecai spoke these epic words to Esther, his beloved niece. She must choose, there was no neutral ground. She could step back, draw the curtains, put her head in the sand and ignore the persecution of her people. Or she could step beyond fear and the suppress the pull of self-preservation. An entire people group’s destiny lay at her feet. What would the young queen do?

Christians are being fired, sued, and prosecuted for respectfully stating their opinions in their workplaces and businesses when directly asked. Christian small business owners are deliberately targeted by lobby group representatives and put into a situation where they must either deny their faith and beliefs or face million dollar lawsuits that will put them out of business. If you haven’t yet faced such persecution, then now is the time for you to decide what are you going to do when it comes your way. It WILL come your way.

Will you stand firm in love and respect? Will you ensure God’s truth is spoken from a stream of compassion and concern for the person or group that is coming against you? Will you bow to peer pressure out of a fear of retribution? Will you retaliate with judgmental, resentment-filled diatribes on Social Media and blogs, using Bible verses as ammunition to fire back? Or will you use God’s word to bring grace, light, love, and freedom into the lives of those who come against you? It is NEVER appropriate for Christians time to be resentful, bitter, and hateful in speech and attitude, even toward those whose agenda is to ridicule and curtail our freedom of speech and religion. However, it is also not appropriate to not defend your faith!

If you have a game plan in place, you will be less apt to put your foot in your mouth or to speak from a place of fear and resentment. If you have a game plan in place, you will remember the cross that is set before you, (Hebrews 12:2) and you will not allow the fear of persecution to stop you from standing when a respectful stance must be made. If you have a game plan, there is the potential for you to be a catalyst that will transform lives by bringing healing and reconciliation as you model the heart of Jesus who lived and walked among those who He knew would eventually betray and abandon Him.
